About the game
After the success of the original Pillars of Eternity, Obsidian’s 2015 spiritual successor to their classic Infinity Engine games Icewind Dale and Baldur’s Gate, it was all but guaranteed that a sequel would be happening. Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire brings players back to the world of Eora, serving as a direct sequel to the first game.
Pillars of Eternity II features traditional class-based gameplay like the original game, as well as similar CRPG combat, party member recruitment, and character progression. However, Deadfire sets itself apart from the rest with the inclusion of seafaring, which allows you to explore the titular Deadfire Archipelago in which the game takes place. Aboard your ship, you’ll hire a crew, manage resources, bolster morale through food and drink, and even resolve drama among your crewmembers.
The game also throws in an excellent ship combat system with a fully upgradable ship, maneuvers, weapons volleys and crew management, and you can even opt for boarding action to take out the enemy crew.
Pillars of Eternity II features three DLC expansion packs.
The first, Beast of Winter, brings players to a new area to the south of Deadfire. The expansion brings a new quest that takes them on a journey with the dead, and even has players fight a fearsome dragon that threatens to end the world.
The second pack, Seeker, Slayer, Survivor, introduces the island of Kazuwari, and allows players to fight through its arena as they slay wave after wave of foes and uncover the truth about the island’s past.
The final DLC pack is The Forgotten Sanctum, which has players follow a missing archmage into a dungeon that contains some of the most powerful enemies in the game up to that point.
All three are available in the season pass, along with a variety of free DLC packs that include new upgrades, a new ship, new characters, and cosmetic items.
